Making a superhero movie is challenging and I never did - Basil Joseph

Minnal Murali is a superhero film set in the '90s. The movie tells the story of a village tailor who gets supernatural power from lightning. The movie is directed by Basil Joseph and stars Malayalam youth superstar Tovino Thomas in the title role.

Director Basil's words about the making of the movie

The idea for Minnal Murali was told to me by writer Arun in 2018. Although an interesting idea, making a superhero movie in Malayalam was a big challenge. To prepare such a story in such a way as to satisfy the audience, if taken over, must be fully dedicated to it. Not only the CG and the action sequences but also the script should make sense of the audience. If it does not match the scale of a superhero story, everything may fall apart quickly. However, making such a film was a dream, so it was a bit confusing whether to take it over or get it into competent hands. But in the case of this movie, bringing a Malayalam superhero film to the audience was not only a challenge, it was something I had never done before. It was an inspiration to do something very different, and we have done our best to present Lightning Murali at the right time. The best actors and actresses came to the film. Not only me, but all the people in front of and behind the camera have given 100% to the movie, I hope the audience will be able to see it in the movie and take over the film.

The movie Minnal Murali is produced by Sofia Paul of Weekend Blockbusters. The film stars Femina George, Guru Somasundaram, Aju Varghese, and Harishree Asokan in other prominent roles. On December 24, 2021, Christmas Eve the Superhero Awesome will be available only on Netflix in Malayalam as well as Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Hindi, and English languages.
