The movie brings to the silver screen the helplessness and challenges of people who are isolated in society through the life of a journalist. The film is about the stressful life of a journalist named Harinarayanan. The film also discusses today's social politics through the life of a journalist who struggles with contemporary realities. Director PK Biju says that Kannalan shares a direct testimony of green people and the realities of life. Kannalan says that violence has no place in spirituality. The director added that the film also tells the story of the survival of a man who struggles with his own life.

Kannalan was shot in Palakkad, Alathur, Koothannur, and other places.

Kannalan movie was released on December 17^th of 2021 as an OTT release by leading OTT platforms Neestream, Saina, First Show, High Hopes, Theater Play, and Lime Light.
