Director Sagar said that the movie is a compilation of two events that took place in Alappuzha two years ago. Sagar said that the movie is presented in a completely realistic manner, completely avoiding commercial elements. The cast of the movie is based on that element and the location is also similar to that.

The movie Kanakarajyam was begun on 25^th February 2022 at the Kottarakara Sree Maha Ganapathi Temple. The movie was started with a simple ceremony attended by activists and relatives, with producer Vinayaka Ajith lit the Bhadradeepam. Vinayaka Ajith gave the switch on the camera and director Sagar's father Harikuttan did the first clap. The filming started with the combined shot of Indrans, Jolly, and Athira Patel. The major shooting locations are in Cheerankavu, Maranadu, Ezhukone, Neduvathoor, and Kundara areas near Kottarakkara. This is the first movie to be shot in the area. The filming of Kanakarajyam movie has been completed in Kottarakkara, Kunda and Kollam.
