National Mural Painting Camp 'Varamudra 2022' from March 9 to 15 in Thiruvananthapuram

Thiruvananthapuram: State Government's Department of Cultural Affairs department conducting the National Mural Painting Camp 'Varamudra 2022' organized by Aranmula Vasthuvidya Gurukulam will be held from March 9 to 15 at Ananthavilasam Palace, Thiruvananthapuram. The camp will be attended by more than 30 talents including 12 eminent artists from outside the state and Gurukulam artists. Every day from 5 pm, various events, seminars, discussions, and documentary film screenings on various topics are organized.

Culture Minister Saji Cherian will inaugurate the camp on 9th March 2022, at 11am. Minister Veena George will preside over the function and Minister Adv. GR Anil will be the special guest. The keynote address will be delivered by Rani George, Principal Secretary, Department of Culture. Shaji N Karun Chairman of Kerala Film Development Corporation, Mohammad Riyas Director of Department of Culture, Murali Cheeroth Chairman of Kerala Lalithakala Academy, V Karthikeyan Nair Former Director of Kerala Language Institute, BD Dattan painter, Tourism RT Mission State Co-ordinator Rupeshkumar K, Dr. G Shankar Chairman of Vasthuvidya Gurukulam, director TR Sadasivan Nair and others will speak. 11.45 am Painting, Art show from 5 pm, and the seminar will be inaugurated by Prof. V Karthikeyan Nair Former Director of Kerala Language Institute. Dr. MG Sasibhooshan will lead the seminar on the history and features of Kerala wall painting and Dr. A Mohanakshan Nair will lead the seminar on the myth of wall painting. This will be followed by a discussion and a documentary screening.

Malayalam Mission Director Murugan Kattakada, J Rejikumar Director of Department of Archeology, Bharat Bhavan Member Secretary Pramod Payyannur, Nemam Pushparaj former chairman of Kerala Lalithakala Academy, Director of Archeology E Dinesh, Vyloppalli Samskrithi Bhavan Vice-Chairman GS Pradeep, Kerala Language Institute Director PS Sreekala will address the camp on different days. Prof. Pradosh Mishra of Banaras Hindu University, Dr. M Velayudhan Nair, Prof. Suresh K Nair, and Dr. Kannan Parameswaran will also lead the seminars.

Apart from painting, art activities like Panchavadyam, Kalamezhuthu, Mizhavu, Thayambaka, Chakyar Koothu, Veena Kacheri, and Vanchippattu are also organized in connection with the camp.

Minister Antony Raju will inaugurate the concluding session which will be held on the 15th March 2022 at 3 pm. Minister PA Mohammad Riyaz will preside over the function. Minister V Sivankutty will be the special guest. Dr. V Venu, Additional Chief Secretary of Archeology, will deliver the keynote address. Dr. G Shankar the Chairman of Vasthuvidya Gurukulam, Krishna Teja Director of Department of Tourism, Director of Vasthuvidya Gurukulam TR Sadasivan Nair, and others will speak.


Chairman Dr. G Shankar and Director TR Sadasivan Nair of Vasthuvidya Gurukulam said that the National Wall Painting Camp organized 29 years after its inception is a positive intervention.
