The chief associate directors of the film are Gopesh Sarath and Shaalam. The movie was co-produced by VC Praveen and Baiju Gopalan and the executive producer is Krishnamoorthy.
Prabhu Deva joined Jayasurya's Kathanar helmed by Rojin Thomas on 16 March 2024. The actor who reached the set was welcomed by the crew members. "Prabhu Deva is coming for a Malayalam film. It is a matter of happiness. He has been a part of many films and it is a pleasure and excitement that he is acting in this film. After 'Urumi' was released in 2011, Prabhu Deva's next Malayalam film is Katanaar. We consider it a great privilege to be able to work with him. We are now trying to create a visual feast for the audience through Katanaar. We hope that it will be a film that will amaze the audience," said Krishnamurthy, executive producer of Sri Gokulam Movies.
The news of Anushka Shetty joining the film was released by the crew last day. Anushka Shetty's first Malayalam movie is 'Kathanar'. Vijay Babu under the banner Friday Film House announced the movie and later Gokulam Gopalan of Sree Gokulam Movie took up the production of the movie. Senthil Nathan heads the virtual production and Vishnu Raj is the CGI head. The shooting of the film Kathanar is going on in Chennai, Rome, and Kochi.
The music for the film 'Kathanar' is composed by Rahul Subrahmanian from the lyrics of Arun Alat, Vinayak Sasikumar, and Sachin S Kumar.
Kathanar movie will be released worldwide in many languages like Malayalam, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, English, Bengali, Chinese, French, Korean, Italian, Russian, Indonesian, Japanese, German etc. It is reported that the first part of the film, which is being prepared in two parts in 3D, will hit theaters in 2024.
