Thiruvananthapuram: The 20th anniversary of the formation of the Engineering Department of the Local Self-Government Department is being celebrated in a grand manner on September 15, National Engineers Day.

Minister MB Rajesh will inaugurate the one-day workshop organized at Nanthancodu Vyloppalli Samskrithi Bhavan in Thiruvananthapuram, as part of the celebrations, at 10:30 am. The minister will honor the engineers at the function. Department Rural Principal Secretary Dr. Sharmila Mary Joseph, IAS will be the chairperson. Additional Chief Secretary Sharada Muralidharan will deliver the keynote address.

Fourteenth Five Year Plan Perspective by State Planning Board Member Prof (Dr.) Jiju P Alex will present.

Kerala State Rural Development Agency Chief Engineer Sandeep KG, Engineer Division Chief Engineer Johnson K, Co-ordinated Local Self-Government Department Principal Director MG Rajamanikyam, Panchayat Department Director H Dinesan, Urban Affairs Department Director Arun K Vijayan, Kila Director Dr. Joy Elamon, Urban-Rural Planning Department Chief Town Planner Pramod Kumar CP, Engineering Department Administrative Officer Binu SK, LSGD Retired Chief Engineer Sundaran K and Engineering Department Administrative Assistant Krishna Mohan Parangothu will speak.

The 'Darshan' workshop will be held from 2 pm. The subject is New Footings - Local Self-Government Department Engineering Department and Background Development. State Planning Board Member Prof. Jiju P Alex will be the moderator. Chief Technical Examiner Harikumar S, State Audit Department Director Sangi D, Vigilance Chief Town Planner Shiji E Chandran, LSGD Retired Chief Engineers PR Sajikumar, Sajevan KV, and others will present the topic.

More than 500 engineers from various local self-government bodies in Kerala will participate in the workshop for senior officials and subject matter experts in the government engineering and administrative assistant sectors. Details including modification of the currently used specification to suit Kerala's climate and topography are topics for discussion at the workshop. Programs are organized and last for a year.
