Aalokam is written and directed by Abhilash Babu.

On Minimal Cinema's YouTube page, Dr. Abhilash Babu, who gained notoriety for his film "Mayannu, Mairavarayunnu, Niswasamil..." that was shown at IFFK last year, has uploaded his debut feature, "Aalokam: Ranges of Vision" on 28 March 2025.

The goal of Minimal Cinema is to increase the popularity of indie Malayalam films. "Mannu," which was directed by Ramdas Kadavallur; "Marupathai," which was directed by Sreekrishnan KP; "Kuttippuram Palam," which was directed by Prathap Joseph; "Avalkkoppam (With Her)"; and "52 Seconds" are among the other releases on the channel. Every week, the channel hopes to release one new independent film.

Alokam was finished in 2023 and features five of the most well-known poems of the British poet Robert Browning as a movie inside a movie. Film societies as well as other literary and media departments are showing "Aalokam."

The film "Krishnashtami: the book of dry leaves," directed by Abhilash Babu and based on the poetry "Krishnashtami" by Vyloppilli, is now in production. Ouseppachan is composing the music for this movie, in which Geo Baby plays the lead.

Synopsis

Based on five dramatic monologues by Victorian poet Robert Browning, an average man from the lower middle class in Kerala attempts to meet a theater actor to bring his notion of drama to life. He sees the actor as his alter ego and imagines the conversations on different facets of the topic. The actor, who holds opposing and contrasting opinions about the protagonist, highlights the potential for a movie on the topic and demands that the former turn it into a screenplay.

As a 'tragedy with a difference,' the film concludes with the creator himself playing a character in a mind-film, an introverted individual shaped by financial and social constraints attempting to produce a film.
